A few years ago, over a beer or two with a pal in a pub in London, we berated the world for not promoting decent, quality music anymore. What was needed, we agreed, was a radio station that championed not just unknown artists and music, but which also picked out gems that are on well-known albums, perhaps by well-known artists, but which were never released as singles.
Then, having pronounced what we'd do if we were in charge, we sat back and had another beer. And that's where most pub-based discussions end, of course. But not in our case. As we sat there, we realised, my techy friend and I, that we could do it... why not create an internet radio station? There seems to be tens of thousands of them, so how hard can it be? And surely, between the two of us (I was a developer, he was a networks and servers type of guy) we had the perfect mix of skills for the job?
Well, it took us nearly a year due to other commitments, but we got there. The result is https://alet.rocks
Check it out. At the moment it is still running test transmissions but we have high hopes of running original programming, live broadcasts, and also funding it via advertising.
